What Is WTGL? Inside the LPGA-Backed Team Golf League Launching in 2026

What is WTGL?

WTGL is a newly announced women’s team golf league. It is the women’s version of Tomorrow’s Golf League, usually referred to as TGL.

WTGL is a team-based, technology-driven women’s golf league announced by TMRW Sports in partnership with the LPGA. It is designed as a modern complement to the traditional LPGA Tour schedule, and aims to bring women’s golf into a prime-time, made-for-TV format.

Unlike standard stroke-play tournaments, WTGL is built around teams, head-to-head competition, and an arena-style setting, with an emphasis on fast-paced play and fan engagement.

How the League Works

The concept will largely mirror the men’s TGL, which is currently in its second season. WTGL will use the same venue used to host matches for TGL at the custom-built SoFi Center in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida.

WTGL will feature:

  • LPGA Tour players competing on city-based teams
  • A shortened match format designed for television/streaming
  • A technology-forward environment, blending real shots with simulated elements
  • Events held in a custom-built arena, rather than on a traditional golf course

Who Is Behind It?

WTGL is led by TMRW Sports, the same group behind the TGL concept, with direct collaboration from the LPGA. LPGA players are not just participants, they are core stakeholders in shaping the league’s future.

This partnership signals a long-term investment rather than one-off exhibition series.

Why WTGL Matters

WTGL represents a shift in how women’s golf is:

  • Packaged (shorter, team-based, prime-time friendly)
  • Marketed (new audiences, younger fans, urban markets)
  • Monetized (sponsorship models beyond traditional tournaments)

It also offers players another platform for visibility, compensation, and brand-building — without competing against the LPGA Tour.

When Does WTGL Start?

WTGL is preparing to launch its inaugural season later this year, in Winter 2026-27. Additional details will be announced in the coming months. You can sign up to receive notifications directly from WTGL here.

The Bigger Picture

WTGL seeks to expand women’s professional golf and capture the younger audiences in sports. According to TMRW Sports, “Season 1 of TGL drew one of the youngest audiences in sports, second only to the NBA, in both median age (52) and percentage of audience in the adults 18-49 demo (41%).” By blending elite competition with modern presentation, the league aims to give women’s golf the same innovation and spotlight that other major sports have embraced.

For fans, it’s a new way to watch and engage.

For players, it’s a new way to compete.

For the sport, it’s a meaningful evolution.
